Meditation Class Eight

Try to alternate, in 15 minutes of analytical meditation per day, between identifying the things around you that fit the Middle-Way idea of what is ultimate or deceptive, and those that fit the Mind-Only idea of what is ultimate or deceptive.

NOTE: Preliminaries should be done during your first meditation of the day.

Find a comfortable place.

Questions to help guide your examination…

Middle Way: Deceptive:

Q. How do the things, people, my current situation, my own mind appear to deceive me?
Q. How are they appearing as self-existent (coming from themselves vs. a projection forced on me by my past karma)?
Q. If something is here that I like, how can I plant the seeds to keep this going?
Q. If there is something here that I don’t like, recognize and clean with four powers or create a new four-step plan.

Gak Ja: A world where there is a limit to my success.

Middle Way: Ultimate

Q. How do they really exist? (there is nothing not coming from me)

Mind Only Way: Deceptive:

There are two flavors of the deceptive for this one…
Kuntaks—names and labels don’t exist by definition.
Gak Ja—names and labels that automatically belong to the thing.
Shenwangs—things that function or dependent things that exist depending on their causes and conditions.
Gak Ja—a me and an object that don’t come from the same karmic seed.

Q. How do the things, people, my current situation, my own mind appear to deceive me?
Kuntaks
Q. What constructs, names do I think belong to the things around me?
Q. Did I ask someone to confirm a label recently, like this is a bad thing, bad boss…etc.?
Q. What constructs am I overlaying on what I see? These things do not exist by definition. (Deceptive Reality)
Q. How can I use it—branding?
Q. How am I “kuntaking” my world?
Q. How am I labeling my shenwangs—things that exist by definition, meaning with their own causes and conditions?
Q. The names (Kuntaks) are not automatically connected to things (Shenwangs) automatically.

Practical use: Garbage is not garbage from its own side. I can turn it into a gold mine by recycling or harvesting all the precious metals.

Shenwangs
Q. How am I seeing dependent things as existing from their own side in the mind only school? (I didn’t put me and that thing together here in this moment. The angry wife/husband/boss)

Mind Only Way: Ultimate

How does that thing, person, current situation, exist by definition (dependent things and totality) in my world?
To be ultimate in this school is to exist by definition (meaning with causes and conditions).
Gak Ja is anything that could exist without its causes and conditions.
No separate seed…
